Wet Frog Divers

Located in Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores, Wet Frog Divers serves as a gateway to the diverse marine ecosystems of Komodo National Park. The centre operates from the Bintang Flores Hotel, providing direct beach access and a 4-star environment for those choosing a dive and stay package.

Since taking over the operation in 2018, the international management team has focused on providing professional, small-group excursions. The centre is committed to reef conservation through the Reef Check EcoDiver programme, ensuring that the local ecosystems are respected while you explore them.

The centre is run by an international management team, Dmitry and Natalie, who bring extensive experience diving in Indonesia. The team is multilingual, with instruction and communication available in English, Russian, and Indonesian.

They focus on a personalised approach, preferring small groups of divers with similar skill levels. For families or specific groups, individual guides can be arranged to ensure the dive profile matches the specific needs of the party.

Wet Frog Divers offers a comprehensive range of training through both PADI and SSI affiliations. Beginners can start with a Try Dive or Discover Scuba Diving, progressing through to the Open Water Diver certification.

For those looking to advance their skills, the centre provides Advanced Adventurer, Divemaster, and various specialty programmes. Specific training is also available for skill refreshment, such as the Scuba Skills Update, and safety-focused courses like React Right and the Stress & Rescue Course. They also offer dedicated training for Nitrox and Perfect Buoyancy.

The Santai is a large wooden boat, renovated in 2018, which serves as the centre's primary dive vessel. It has a capacity for 20 guests plus crew and is designed to offer a comfortable experience during the transit to the dive sites.

On board, you will find amenities including hammocks, sofas, sun chairs, and mattresses for relaxing between dives. The boat is also equipped with two western-style marine toilets and provides light breakfast, lunch, exotic fruits, snacks, and local desserts. Freshwater is available on board for camera rinsing, and tea, coffee, and water are provided throughout the day.

The shore-based facilities include a dedicated compressor room equipped with a BAUER compressor. The centre maintains a significant inventory of more than 40 cylinders, each with a 12L capacity.

Full equipment hire is available for divers who do not wish to travel with their own kit. The centre is also equipped to handle night dives, with oxygen safety protocols and equipment in place.

The waters of Komodo are famous for large pelagics. You will regularly encounter various shark species, including grey reef sharks, whitetip sharks, and blacktip sharks, alongside large tuna, barracuda, and Napoleon wrasse. Manta rays are a significant attraction, frequently visiting cleaning stations at sites like Lighthouse and Makassar Reef.

The reef structures are teeming with life, from large groupers and snappers to eagle rays and mobula rays. You will also see a variety of turtles, moray eels, and diverse schools of fusiliers, jacks, and platax.

For those interested in macro life, the area is exceptional. The sandy patches and reef crevices host nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses, frogfish, scorpionfish, pipefish, and various species of shrimp and crabs. You may also find octopus, including the mimic octopus and blue-ringed octopus, as well as mandarin fish and flamboyant cuttlefish.

The scenery is defined by a rich array of fixed life, including various gorgonians, sea fans, sponges, and diverse hard and soft corals that provide the foundation for this ecosystem.

Diving in Komodo is heavily influenced by the meeting of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, which creates significant currents. These can range from gentle drifts to very strong currents that require experience to manage safely.

The best time to visit the region is during the dry season from April to October. It is generally advised to avoid the peak rainy season in January and February due to unpredictable weather and potential port closures.
