Le Saint Erasme, Hotel Eco Friendly

Calvi Train Station is about 0.6 miles away on foot. Calvi – Sainte-Catherine Airport is about 2.8 miles away, with the drive taking around 14 minutes. Bastia – Poretta Airport is a much longer alternative, about 60 miles away by road.

The useful choice here is less about collecting room names and more about deciding how much breathing space and how much sea you want. Couples can keep things straightforward with a double room, or choose a comfort or panorama category when a balcony and a view matter once you are back upstairs. Most rooms have furnished balconies overlooking the sea, which is a good place for a quiet coffee rather than another expedition.

For three or four guests, the larger comfort and panorama rooms make more practical sense than trying to fit a full team into a compact double. The Panorama Quadruple Room with Sea View and the suites offer room to spread out a little, while the family-room provision keeps the hotel workable for mixed-age groups. The suites also have a private bathroom, as do the rooms generally.

Air conditioning and soundproofing deal with two familiar hotel irritations: warm nights and corridor noise. Rooms also have a refrigerator, an electric kettle, a wardrobe, a desk, a private bathroom with shower and toiletries, and a flat-screen television. Free WiFi runs throughout the hotel. In other words, you can cool down, store a bottle of water, charge the phone and ignore the television if the sea is doing a better job.

The on-site restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, so you can eat without automatically heading back into Calvi. Breakfast is a buffet, served from 7.30am, which gives an early start a clear advantage when the day begins with a boat or a long walk. There is also a coffee house and a snack bar for the moments when a full meal feels like an unnecessarily ambitious project.

The bar specialises in cocktails and gives the hotel an easy landing point for the end of the day. Wine and champagne are available, too. The restaurant caters for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets, which is useful when the group’s eating habits are not quite as uniform as its dive plan.

The surrounding town gives you further options when you want to eat elsewhere. U Fanale, U Fornu and Mara Sushis are all within about a mile, with U Fanale the closest at roughly 750 feet.

The heated outdoor pool is the main alternative to the sea, with panoramic views towards the Revellata Lighthouse and the water. It gives you somewhere to stretch out between outings without committing to another full day on the beach. Pool and beach towels are available, and sun loungers or beach chairs keep the practical side of lounging pleasantly uncomplicated.

When you want to move, the hotel can arrange or offer excursions by boat, to an island, to a waterfall, to a market or for snorkelling. Hiking and cultural excursions add options on land, particularly useful for a non-diving day or for a companion who prefers Corsica with both feet firmly above the surface.

The garden, terrace, sun terrace and outdoor lounge provide several places to sit with a book, a coffee or the expression of someone who has just discovered that doing nothing is a perfectly respectable holiday activity. Board games and puzzles are available for a slower evening indoors.

Check-in runs from 3.30pm to 11.30pm, and check-out from 8am to 11am. The front desk is open around the clock, with luggage storage and a wake-up service available when your travel plans start early or finish late. Children of any age are welcome, and cots can be requested for children aged up to two; extra beds are not available. The minimum age for check-in is 18, and pets are not allowed.

Private parking is available on site, with a reservation required. Parking space is limited, so this is one detail worth settling before arrival rather than leaving it to the last bend in the road. An electric-vehicle charging station is also available. Cash, Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

WiFi is free throughout the hotel. The lift, air conditioning, heating, non-smoking rooms and daily housekeeping cover the less glamorous but rather important parts of a diving stay. Calvi – Sainte-Catherine Airport is close enough for a short transfer, while Bastia requires a considerably longer road journey.
