AHR Residence Porto Pollo is an aparthotel for divers who like their holiday to leave room for ordinary life: breakfast when you want it, a proper kitchen, somewhere to sit outside, and the sea close at hand. The setting is shaped by the wind and the water, with Porto Pollo known for surfing as well as for its access to the Maddalena Archipelago.

You can choose a self-catering apartment and keep the day flexible, or use the resort's half-board option when cooking is the last thing on your mind. Families have room to spread out, while couples get the useful combination of a private base and resort facilities. English, Italian, German and French are spoken by the hotel team, so practical questions do not need to be solved with underwater hand signals.

You are in Porto Pollo, on the northern coast of Sardinia, with direct access to a golden sandy beach. The residence overlooks the Maddalena Archipelago, and the local coastline gives you several alternatives when you fancy a change of sand: Spiaggia Padula Piatta is about half a mile away on foot, while Porto Pollo Beach is roughly 0.7 miles away. Isola dei Gabbiani Beach is about 1.2 miles away on foot.

Palau is around 3 miles away, giving you a larger choice of shops and places to eat without putting you in the middle of a town. Il Maestrale is about 0.6 miles away, and Hotel Ristorante Pizzeria le Dune by Holiday is around 1 mile away. The Parco Nazionale dell'Arcipelago di La Maddalena is about 4.3 miles away, while the Giants' Tombs of Coddu Vecchiu are around 10 miles away by road.

Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport is about 28 miles away by road, usually around 45 minutes by car. Figari-Sud Corse Airport is a longer alternative at roughly 38 miles by road, with a journey of about two hours. A hire car is available through the residence, and free private parking is on site.

These are apartments rather than standard hotel rooms, which matters when you return hungry, sandy and carrying more equipment than seemed reasonable at the airport. The living area includes a kitchen and either a double sofa bed or a large bed, alongside a separate main bedroom and private bathroom. A furnished terrace or patio gives you somewhere to sit outside instead of balancing a drink on the bathroom ledge.

The one-bedroom apartments are the natural choice for a couple who want a little breathing space, while the larger apartment layout works better for a family or a group sharing. The one-bedroom version with spa bath adds a private place to soak after a long day, and the terrace option gives you the more useful outdoor extension for breakfast, drying beachwear or simply watching the light go down.

Air conditioning keeps the room manageable after a hot Sardinian day, while heating covers cooler evenings. WiFi is free throughout the property. The apartments are non-smoking, and the kitchenette needs to be cleaned before departure; final cleaning is included, along with the first set of bed and bath linen. Additional linen or towels can be rented on site.

Il Miraggio Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner on its terrace, with Mediterranean cooking based on fresh local ingredients. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices are catered for. Packed meals are available too, which can save you from trying to turn a dive briefing, a beach outing and a proper lunch into the same event.

The large outdoor swimming pool comes with sun loungers and umbrellas, giving you an easy landing place for the afternoon when the sea has done enough talking. The residence also has direct beach access, with sun loungers, parasols and a beach bar waiting down by the sand. For many guests, that may be the entire programme. There is no need to apologise for it.

If you still have energy after breakfast or a morning in the water, the on-site activities include snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and canoeing. Equipment hire and water-sports facilities are available, so the beach can keep you occupied without requiring a second expedition. Cycling and hiking add options on land, while boat trips and excursions to the La Maddalena Archipelago take you further along the coast.

The residence is family-friendly, with a children's menu and babysitting available. That combination leaves couples free to have a quieter meal or a proper drink, while families can use the apartments, beach and pool without needing a separate entertainment schedule.

Arrival is handled between 17:00 and 20:00, with departure between 09:00 and 10:00. You need to provide photo identification and a payment card at check-in, and the residence needs your expected arrival time in advance. Late arrivals can be arranged with the property, subject to confirmation. There is no age requirement for check-in.

Free private parking is available on site without a reservation, and WiFi works throughout the property. Airport transfers are available as a paid service, and car hire can be arranged through the residence. Concierge assistance, luggage storage, laundry and dry-cleaning services are also available, which is useful when a week of salt water has started to take its revenge on your clothes.

Cash, Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Children of any age are welcome; a cot is available on request for babies aged from birth to one year, while extra beds are not available. Smoking and parties are not allowed. The residence accepts pets on request.
