The setting suits divers who want somewhere to recover between outings, but also want the option of doing very little. A pool facing the sea, a garden, a terrace, a bar and free Wi-Fi cover the essentials; the rest is up to you. There is a library when you want quiet, table tennis and billiards when you do not, and a barbecue area for an evening that need not involve finding a restaurant.

The residence stands at Lieu-dit Hameau de Picovaggia, on the Route de Palombaggia in Porto-Vecchio, France. It sits on a hillside in a wooded park, in a coastal setting shaped by the Corsican maquis rather than by a town-centre grid.

Porto-Vecchio centre is about 2.5 miles away by road, or around ten minutes according to the residence. The sea is around five minutes away, and the beach access includes a direct option as well as a beach reachable by car. Palombaggia, Santa Giulia, Tamaricciu and Rondinara are all a few minutes away by car, with fine sand, sun loungers and parasols at the beach.

That location gives you a useful split: enough distance from town for a more open setting, but not so much that an evening in Porto-Vecchio becomes an expedition. A golf course is around 2 miles away, and the surrounding area lends itself to walking, cycling, boat trips and visits to local markets.

The accommodation is arranged as rooms, studios, apartments, villas, cottages, bungalows and chalets, with private bathrooms across the range. That matters because you can choose between a simple base for two and a more self-contained stay for a family or a group, rather than forcing every guest into the same hotel-room mould.

For a couple, a double room or sea-view studio keeps things straightforward, while the sea-view versions give the view a proper role in the choice rather than leaving it to chance. Studios and selected apartments bring the practical kit that makes a residence work well over several days: a kitchen, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee facilities and dining space. Some also include air conditioning, heating, soundproofing, blackout blinds, a safe, television and Wi-Fi.

The larger apartments and villas are the sensible direction for families or divers travelling with more luggage and a preference for spreading out. Two-bedroom layouts are available, as are accommodation options for four and six guests. Some villas have shared bathrooms, so read the individual room card carefully before booking; private bathrooms are also available elsewhere in the range. Air conditioning is present in selected accommodation, which is useful when a warm, salty day has followed you back indoors.

This is a self-catering residence rather than a full-board operation. The official formula is room only, so the kitchen facilities in selected studios, apartments and villas are more than decorative: a fridge, cooking equipment, microwave, dishwasher and dining area can take care of breakfast, a packed lunch or the meal you would rather assemble yourself than dress up for.

Breakfast is served by the pool from 7 am until midday, with a continental choice and à la carte options available on request. That late finish is handy on a holiday schedule, although early boat departures may call for your own arrangements. Snacks are available throughout the day, including ice cream, and the poolside bar also serves cocktails, wine and aperitif boards.

There is one bar with both poolside and beach-bar functions, giving the afternoon somewhere to land once you have stopped pretending that one more activity is necessary. The residence also has barbecue facilities, so an evening can be as simple as picking up supplies in Porto-Vecchio, putting food on the grill and keeping the conversation outside.

The heated infinity pool faces the sea and can be used from spring through autumn, making it the obvious place to spend the afternoon when the legs have had enough of fins. A solarium, pool equipment and beach equipment keep the arrangement simple, while the beach shuttle gives you another way to reach the coast when you do not fancy taking the car.

The residence also has a spa with massage, facial treatments, hammam, sauna and jacuzzi. Some villas have a private spa, which changes the rhythm of the evening: less moving about, more closing the door and letting the day go quiet. For a couple, that is a more convincing reason to choose a particular villa than another decorative label.

Away from the water, you can play tennis, table tennis, billiards or mini-golf, or head out by bike or on foot. Kayaking, paddleboarding and boat trips are available, with equipment rental on site. Excursions can include an island, a waterfall, a market or a snorkelling outing, and the concierge can help organise activities. Families also have a games room and a children's play area.

The residence is around 25 minutes from the airport, and an airport transfer service is available. Vehicle hire is also available, while parking and a garage are on site. With beaches and several outings spread around the Porto-Vecchio area, having a car may make the location easier to use, particularly if you want to vary your beaches rather than stay put.

Check-in runs from 5 pm to 7 pm, with check-out by 10 am. Express check-in and check-out are available. A security deposit is required for the stay, so include that practical point in your booking plans rather than discovering it at the desk with a car full of dive bags.
