Tauch Terminal Resort Tulamben

Located on the shores of Tulamben, Bali, Tauch Terminal Resort is a dedicated diving complex designed by divers for divers. The resort is positioned to provide immediate access to the area's most famous underwater landmarks, avoiding the heavy transit often associated with larger tourist hubs.

The centre is built on a foundation of eco-responsibility, utilising solar panels, energy-efficient lighting, and an electric dive buggy to move equipment. By replacing plastic bottles with reusable glass, the resort maintains a focus on preserving the very marine environments you are here to explore.

The centre is led by Dr. Wolf Becher, a marine biologist, ensuring that the training and guiding are underpinned by a deep understanding of local ecology. It holds the prestigious SSI Diamond Instructor status, a distinction held by only two centres in Indonesia.

Instruction is provided in English, German, and Indonesian. The team maintains a strict ratio of one guide per diver, ensuring personalised attention whether you are completing an Open Water Diver course or heading out for a technical wreck penetration.

As an SSI Diamond centre, the training programme is extensive, covering the entire spectrum of certification. You can begin with the SSI Try Scuba or Scuba Explorer for kids, progressing through the SSI Open Water Diver and Advanced Adventurer programmes.

For more experienced divers, the centre offers specialised SSI training including Nitrox Diver, Stress and Rescue, Deep Diving, and Wreck Diving. The curriculum also includes technical skills such as Navigation, Search & Recovery, and underwater photography and video.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit, including BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, fins, masks, snorkels, dive computers, torches, and digital cameras. This allows you to travel light while still having access to reliable equipment for every dive.

Nitrox is available for all divers on the Tulamben sites. For those looking to extend their bottom time or dive deeper, 15-litre cylinders are available for use.

The marine life around Tulamben is exceptionally diverse. You will encounter large pelagics and reef residents including Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus), great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), and various species of sharks such as whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus) and blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus). Schools of fusiliers (Caesio), jacks (Carangidae), and trevallies move through the water column, while angelfish (Pomacanthidae), butterflyfish (Chaetodon), and damselfish (Pomacentridae) inhabit the reef structures.

The reef architecture is built from a rich tapestry of hard corals (Scleractinia) and soft corals (Alcyonacea), including whip corals and sea fans (Gorgoniidae). You may also spot large rays, manta rays (Mobula alfredi), and ocean sunfish (Mola mola) passing through the deeper sections of the coast.

For macro enthusiasts, the sites offer incredible opportunities to find pygmy seahorses (Hippocampus bargibanti), porcelain crabs (Brachyura), and various nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani). Look closely among the corals for ribbon eels (Anguilliformes), mantis shrimp, and colourful sea slugs or flatworms (Turbellaria).

Conditions vary significantly depending on the specific site. The Tulamben wreck and reef sites generally experience calm to moderate currents, making them accessible for a wide range of experience levels. However, sites further afield like Nusa Penida or Gili Biaha are known for strong and changing currents that require advanced experience.

Swell can occasionally affect the area around Nusa Penida and Lembongan. Divers should be prepared for thermoclines when visiting the islands, which can cause sudden drops in water temperature.
