Camping La Pinède

Set on five hectares in Calvi, this is a four-star campsite built around air-conditioned chalets, caravans and mobile homes rather than conventional hotel rooms. That makes a difference after diving: you have your own terrace, a kitchenette and a little more breathing space than a standard room usually allows.

The tone is practical and outdoorsy, with a garden setting, a pool and plenty for families to do. Couples can keep things simple with a compact chalet or the Roulotte Agriate, while larger groups have roomier accommodation to spread out in. The website is available in English, as well as French, German and Italian, so you can get to grips with the place before you arrive.

There is also a useful Mediterranean habit of keeping the essentials close. You can eat on site, pick up provisions at the minimarket, use the barbecue facilities or walk towards Calvi when you fancy a change of scene. No need to turn every evening into an expedition.

You are in Calvi, Corsica, at Camping La Pinède on Route de la Pinède, in a coastal setting. Pinède Beach is about 200 metres away, or roughly two minutes on foot. That is close enough for an early swim, a quiet stroll before breakfast or an easy return when the sea has done its work on your legs.

Calvi town centre is 2.7 km away, generally a 10–15-minute journey, while the Calvi U Pinetu and Calvi E Padule railway stations are around 500 metres away. A few restaurants are close by, including Carpe Diem Calvi at about 150 metres and Pizza Pinocchio at roughly 1.5 km.

For wider exploring, L'Île-Rousse is 22 km away. Calvi–Sainte-Catherine Airport is around 1.5 miles from the campsite and about a seven-minute drive; Bastia–Poretta Airport is much further, at approximately 58 miles.

The accommodation is designed for self-contained living. Every chalet, caravan and mobile home has air conditioning, a private furnished terrace, a flat-screen television and a kitchenette with a fridge, hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine. After a long day in the water, that means cold drinks, somewhere to sit outside and the option of keeping dinner uncomplicated.

The choice is mainly about how much space and separation you need. The larger Chalet Bonifato and Mobile Home Girolata are the sensible direction for a group that does not want to live shoulder-to-shoulder, while the Mobile Home Scandola has two bathrooms, useful when several people are trying to get ready at once. The Mobile Home Le Fanale is the accessible-designated option. For two, the Roulotte Agriate has a double bed and sofa bed, giving the stay a more compact, characterful feel.

Private bathrooms with showers, bed linen and towels are included. Wardrobes, dressing areas, clothes racks and a drying rack keep the practical business under control, while the garden view gives the accommodation a calmer outlook than a car park-facing pitch. Each unit also has a dining area or seating area, so you can eat indoors when the evening turns cooler and use the terrace when Corsica is behaving itself.

La Table is the on-site restaurant, working from breakfast through lunch and dinner. Its cooking is Corsican, with emblematic island dishes prepared from fresh regional ingredients and locally caught fish. This is the part of the day when you can stop pretending that a cereal bar counts as dinner.

Breakfast is continental. For lunch or dinner, the restaurant keeps you on site and close to your accommodation, which is handy when you would rather not drive after a day outdoors. Snacks are also available, and there is a bar as well as a snack bar for the less ambitious moments between meals.

The kitchenette gives you another option: a fridge, hob, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, kettle and kitchenware are all in place. Free barbecue facilities, an outdoor dining area and a picnic area make it possible to organise an evening around your own timetable. La Table is open from April until the end of October, so the restaurant's seasonal rhythm matters when you are choosing your dates.

The heated outdoor pool is more than a token rectangle: the water area includes a shallow pool, water-play features and slides. Sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas and outdoor furniture give you somewhere to dry off without immediately retreating indoors. If the day's plan is simply pool, book and shade, the campsite is perfectly equipped for that sort of discipline.

For something more active, there are two tennis courts, mini golf, table tennis, volleyball and badminton equipment. The activity programme also includes yoga, meditation, aquagym, fitness classes, stretching, circuit training and a beach-based body-awakening session. A fitness room is available too, although nobody will object if you classify a walk to the beach as sufficient training.

The spa is open all year and includes a relaxation area, steam room, sauna, hammam and massage treatments, including couples, head, back, foot and full-body massage. Kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling and boat excursions are also offered for time on the water without putting a tank on your back. In the evening, the programme can move towards 1980s-themed nights, Corsican singing, film nights or live sport broadcasts. Families have a kids' club for children aged six to twelve, children's activities, a playground and a children's pool.

Check-in runs from 17:00 to 22:00, and check-out is from 08:00 to 10:00. You need photo identification and a credit card at arrival, and a refundable damage deposit is collected by card and returned after the accommodation has been inspected at check-out. Children of all ages are welcome; children aged three and over are treated as adults for occupancy purposes, while cots are available for children aged up to two on request.

Free private parking is available on site without reservation, which is useful if you are bringing your own car or planning to explore Balagne. WiFi is free in the public areas. A 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, concierge service and laundry facilities cover the useful practical details, and pets are allowed.

The campsite is close enough to Calvi's beaches and town for a mixed holiday, but the accommodation itself is spread across a large outdoor site. That suits you if you want a terrace, a kitchenette and the option of staying put; it is less like a compact hotel where everything happens behind one front door. The airport is close, and the station is around 500 metres away.
