La Case Marine Dive Center

Located on the quays of the port in Banyuls-sur-Mer, La Case Marine has been a fixture of the local diving community since 2003. The centre provides direct access to the Cerbère-Banyuls Marine Nature Reserve, one of the most protected and biologically diverse areas in the Mediterranean.

The marine life in this area is defined by the vibrant habitats of the Mediterranean. You will encounter various species of grouper (Epinephelus), including the Dusky grouper (Epinephelus marginatus), alongside common dentex and brown meagre (Sciaena umbra). Large predators like the Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) are also part of the local ecosystem.

In the rocky areas and reef structures, the scenery is shaped by gorgonians and red Mediterranean coral. You will see a variety of colourful life, including different types of soft coral (Alcyonacea) and sea pens, which provide essential cover for smaller species.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants are abundant for the observant diver. Look for various species of octopus (Octopus vulgaris), scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and nudibranchs such as the Purple aeolid (Flabellina affinis) or Chromodoris willani. You may also spot many types of wrasse (Labridae), blennies, and various species of damselfish (Chromis chromis) darting through the reef.
