Résidence Bianca Casa

Set within a three-hectare property near the village of Porra, Résidence Bianca Casa is an aparthotel built around space, independence and outdoor living rather than hotel corridors and fixed routines. You stay in a villa with its own entrance, living area, kitchen and terrace, while the sea and the southern Corsican landscape do most of the decorating.

English is spoken by the hotel team, alongside French and Italian. That makes the practical conversations easy when you arrive, need directions or want to sort out the day ahead. The atmosphere suits divers who like a proper base: somewhere to cool down, eat at their own pace and keep the evening pleasantly uncomplicated.

You are in Porto-Vecchio, in southern Corsica, at the entrance to the village of Porra. Porto-Vecchio town centre is about five minutes away, so restaurants and town life are within a short drive, while the residence itself sits in a quieter natural setting.

Palombaggia Beach is around five minutes away, and Tamaricciu Beach takes roughly the same drive. Folaca Beach is about 2.5 miles away by road, Acciaju Beach about 2.7 miles, and Santa Giulia Beach about 5 miles. This is a car-friendly base rather than a doorstep-to-town address; a supermarket is about 1 mile away, and the nearest listed restaurant is roughly 0.8 miles from the property.

Figari-Sud Corse Airport is about 13 miles away by road, with a driving time of roughly 27 minutes. The beaches are close enough for a morning swim or a change of scenery, but you will want transport for the wider area and airport run.

The useful distinction here is not a long list of room labels; it is how much room you want around your diving life. The smaller villa is a sensible couple’s choice, while the larger four-person options give two couples or a family more breathing space, with some offering two bathrooms. Villa Folaca and Villa Cerbicale are the roomy choices when a single living space is not quite enough for everyone’s bags, kit and post-dive sprawl.

Every villa is air-conditioned and has a living room with seating, a dining area and a flat-screen television. The private terrace or balcony comes with outdoor furniture and, depending on the view, looks across the garden or towards the sea. That gives you somewhere to sit with a coffee before the day starts, rather than balancing a mug on the edge of a suitcase.

Self-catering is properly workable here. Kitchens include a hob, oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee machine and kitchenware, so you can chill water, put together a real meal and deal with the less glamorous laundry side of a diving holiday. Private bathrooms have a shower or bath, and the villas have tiled or marble floors, wardrobes and heating as well as air conditioning.

This is a villa stay, so the main meal plan is the one you create yourself. A dining table, outdoor dining area and equipped kitchen let you decide whether dinner is a quick plate of something cold, a proper cooked meal or simply coffee and toast before heading out. The refrigerator matters more than it sounds when you return warm, hungry and not in the mood for another expedition.

A continental breakfast is available as an option, and there is a coffee house on site for the caffeine department. There is also a bar, useful when the day has been long enough to justify sitting down before deciding what happens next. The arrangement is deliberately flexible rather than built around a full board timetable.

For evenings away from the kitchen, restaurants are within driving distance. The nearest listed restaurant is about 0.8 miles away, with Costa Marina and Restaurant a Chabraca Acciaghjiu Porto-Vecchio around 2 miles and 3 miles away by road respectively. In other words, you can eat in, eat out or let the decision wait until after the first drink.

Two outdoor pools give you a choice without requiring a heroic amount of organisation. The panoramic pool has an infinity edge and sea views; the heated outdoor pool is available outside the main season, when the Mediterranean may be looking inviting but not necessarily feeling cooperative. Sun loungers and beach chairs are provided around the outdoor areas.

The private terrace, garden setting and views towards the sea, Sardinia, Lavezzi and Cavallo make the residence well suited to slow afternoons. You can read, take a proper nap or watch the light change without putting on another piece of technical clothing. After diving, that counts as an activity.

When you do want to leave the pool, the area opens the door to walking and cultural excursions. Boat outings, trips to the Lavezzi Islands and excursions towards Bavella are available, giving couples and non-diving companions something more substantial than another round of sun lounger negotiations.

Arrival is organised between 17:00 and 21:00, and you need to tell the property your expected arrival time. Reception welcomes guests from 17:00, so an early airport landing does not automatically translate into an early check-in. Departure is scheduled between 08:00 and 10:00.

Free on-site parking is available, with a reservation required. Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and private check-in and check-out as well as concierge service are available. Cash is an accepted payment method. Smoking is not allowed, parties are not permitted, and quiet hours run from midnight to 07:00.

Children over two are welcome, but cots and extra beds are not available. Bed linen and towels can be rented at the property or brought with you, which is worth factoring into the packing plan before you leave home. The villas are non-smoking and include air conditioning, heating and private entrances.
