Tulamben Dive

For those focused on macro photography, the sandy and volcanic bottom habitats are incredibly productive. The area is a haven for nudibranchs, seahorses, and various species of shrimp. You will often find ghost pipefish, pygmy seahorses, and many different types of crabs amongst the coral rubble.

The smaller inhabitants include mimic octopuses, baby frogfish, and harlequin shrimps. These creatures, along with various species of pipefish and anemonefish, make the muck dive sites some of the most rewarding in Bali.

The diving environment varies significantly between the sheltered bays and the more open reef sites. While many areas like Jemeluk Bay and Lipah Bay offer calm, gentle conditions suitable for beginners, other sites like the Drop Off or Bunutan involve more significant depth and potential currents.

Drift diving is possible in certain locations, such as Bunutan, where you can follow the current along vibrant coral slopes. Night diving is also a regular part of the local dive programme, particularly in areas like Ghost Bay.
