Scuba Seraya Dive & Resort

Located in the Karangasem regency of North-East Bali, Scuba Seraya Dive & Resort sits on a private beach nestled between the lush tropical gardens of the resort and the volcanic slopes of Mount Agung. The centre is positioned perfectly to access the diverse marine landscapes of the Tulamben and Amed regions, ranging from shallow coral gardens to dramatic volcanic drop-offs.

For divers seeking a more relaxed pace, the resort offers a combination of easy shore entries and trips on a purpose-built fast dive boat. This allows you to explore both the immediate reef flats in front of the property and the more remote sites further along the coast, such as the currents of Gili Selang.

The centre operates with an emphasis on quality and safety, prioritising small class sizes and an unhurried service style. You can expect individual attention rather than being part of a large, crowded group, which is ideal for both technical training and underwater photography.

As an SSI affiliated centre, they provide a structured environment for all levels of certification. The team focuses on providing a personalised experience, ensuring that whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver, the pace of the dive and the level of guidance suit your specific needs.

Scuba Seraya offers a comprehensive range of SSI training programmes. For those just starting their journey, they provide Open Water Diver courses, while more experienced divers can progress through the Advanced Adventurer and Nitrox certifications.

Specialised training is also available, including Night Dive & Limited Visibility courses, which are particularly useful for exploring the local wrecks and reefs under different conditions.

The centre operates a purpose-built fast dive boat designed for comfortable and efficient trips to offshore sites. The vessel has a capacity of 12 passengers and is used for various trip types, including day trips and night dives.

On board, you will find refreshments and mineral water available for refills. Nitrox is available on the boat, making it easy to manage your bottom times during deeper excursions or multi-dive days.

The centre provides a full range of rental equipment for those not travelling with their own kit. This includes all the essentials, as well as underwater digital cameras for divers looking to capture the local macro life.

Shore-side facilities are designed for convenience, with easy access to the water from the private beach. After your dives, you can utilise the provided towels and refreshments at the resort.

The marine life in this region is incredibly diverse, ranging from large pelagics to tiny specialised creatures. You will regularly encounter reef sharks, including white tip and black tip varieties, alongside turtles, goatfish, and various snapper species. Large schools of bigeye trevally, fusiliers, and barracuda are common, and you may see resident Napoleon wrasse or potato groupers on the deeper reefs.

The reef architecture provides a home for a vast array of fixed life. You will see healthy colonies of hard and soft corals, including large Arcopora tabular corals, gorgonians, and various sea fans. Massive barrel sponges and ear sponges are frequently seen on the walls and drop-offs, providing a rich backdrop for the resident fish.

For macro photographers, the area is a haven. The sandy patches and coral rubble host a wealth of nudibranchs, ghost pipefish, and various crustaceans such as Harlequin shrimp (Hymenocera picta), cleaner shrimp, and boxer crabs. You can also find pygmy seahorses, ribbon eels, and various species of octopus and frogfish tucked away in the reef structure.

Diving in this area is generally manageable, with many sites offering low currents. However, conditions can change significantly depending on the lunar cycle; for example, currents can pick up to medium levels during a full moon, particularly at sites like Monkey Bungalows or the Tulamben Wall.

At Gili Selang, the currents can become very strong, earning the site its reputation for the 'Selang Express' drift. It is also important to note that Gili Selang is typically not diveable four days before or after a full moon. The best time for diving in the region is generally during the dry south-east monsoon from April to November.
