Blue Corner Dive

Located in the heart of Indonesia's most dynamic diving regions, Blue Corner Dive operates across Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida, and Menjangan. As a PADI Career Development Centre and ECOCentre, the operation is built on a foundation of scientific understanding and professional expertise, having been co-founded by a marine biologist and a PADI Course Director.

The centre is deeply integrated into the local marine environment. Beyond daily excursions, they manage long-term coral restoration projects within the Nusa Penida Marine Park, offering divers the chance to engage with reef health monitoring and conservation workshops.

The team consists of PADI instructors and divemasters who are trained in-house to maintain consistent standards. This internal training ensures that the staff shares a unified approach to both safety and environmental stewardship.

All instruction is conducted in English. The centre's commitment to sustainability is evident in their daily operations, such as their restaurant's policy of eliminating single-use plastic water bottles to protect the local ecosystem.

The course catalogue is extensive, ranging from PADI Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water Diver through to advanced certifications like PADI Advanced Open Water and Deep Diver. For those looking to professionalise, the centre offers Divemaster, PADI Instructor (IDC), and PADI IDC Staff Instructor programmes.

Specialised training is a core focus, with offerings including Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery, Underwater Navigation, and Drift Diver. The centre also provides technical and ecological pathways through Reef Health Monitoring Modules, Coral Restoration Training Workshops, and various scientific diver programmes.

Freediving is another major pillar of their training, with PADI Freediver and Advanced Freediver courses available for those looking to master breath-hold diving.

The centre provides Nitrox for divers looking to extend their no-decompression limits. For those training in freediving, dormitory-style accommodation is available on-site, with private room upgrades also being an option.

Training is supported by on-site pools, ensuring that students can master buoyancy and skills in a controlled environment before heading out to the open ocean.

The waters around the Nusa islands are famous for large pelagics. You can expect to see reef manta rays (Mobula alfredi) and ocean manta rays (Mobula birostris) year-round, alongside seasonal visits from the ocean sunfish between June and October. Other large visitors include reef sharks (Carcharhinus), blacktip reef sharks, and various species of turtles, such as the Green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata).

The reef architecture is built from vibrant hard corals (Scleractinia) and soft corals (Alcyonacea), including large gorgonians and various coral formations. You will find these structures teeming with life, from schools of jacks (Carangidae) and trevallies to colourful reef fish like butterflyfish (Chaetodon) and angelfish (Pomacanthidae).

For macro enthusiasts, the sites offer incredible diversity. Look closely for nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani, Phyllidia), pygmy seahorses (Hippocampus bargibanti), and various species of frogfish (Antennarius). The sandy areas and reef crevices also hide wobbegong sharks, blue ribbon eels, moray eels (Muraenidae), and various species of octopus (Octopus vulgaris).

The diving environment can be challenging, particularly around the Nusa islands. Sites like Blue Corner and Crystal Bay are subject to strong currents, which can create high-energy drift diving conditions.

While the currents help maintain excellent visibility, divers should be prepared for thermoclines. The best time to visit for calmest conditions is during the low season from November to April, though the Mola mola season from June to October is the primary draw for many.
