Ceningan Divers

Located on the edge of the immaculate mangroves of Nusa Ceningan, Ceningan Divers has been operating since 2015. The centre is a recognised PADI Eco Center and a dedicated 100% AWARE partner, holding several global environmental accolades including the Green Fins Best Environmental Performer for 2025. This commitment to conservation is woven into the fabric of the resort, making it a destination for divers who value sustainable tourism.

The resort offers a seamless experience for those looking to combine diving with a stay on the island. You can stay in one of the eight traditional thatched-roof bungalows, which feature air conditioning, hot water, and private balconies with hammocks. On-site facilities include the Mangrove Restaurant, a lounge, a bar, and two outdoor swimming pools, providing a quiet space to relax between trips.

The centre is staffed by experienced PADI professionals, including Master Scuba Diver Trainers and Master Instructors. Training is conducted in small groups to ensure individual attention and safety, particularly when navigating the more challenging currents of the region.

As a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre (IDC), the team is equipped to take you from your first breath underwater through to professional levels. Their instruction focuses heavily on marine conservation, integrating PADI AWARE principles into the training process to ensure divers leave with a deep understanding of the ecosystems they visit.

The centre offers a comprehensive range of PADI courses for every level of experience. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Scuba Diver course, eventually progressing through Open Water Diver, Adventure Diver, and Advanced Open Water Diver.

For those looking to refine their skills or advance their careers, the curriculum includes the Rescue Diver course, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Deep Diver, and various specialty courses such as Drift Diver, Underwater Navigator, and Boat Diver. The centre also provides professional training for those aiming to become a Divemaster.

Conservation-focused training is a core part of the programme, with specialties including AWARE Coral Reef Conservation, AWARE Fish Identification, and Dive Against Debris. More technical or niche skills are also covered, such as Side Mount Recreational Diver, Equipment Specialist, and Full Face Diver Specialty.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for all divers, covering everything from regulators to BCDs and fins. For those who prefer to use their own kit, a discount is provided for bringing your own equipment.

Nitrox is available for use, with 12-litre and 15-litre cylinder options. The centre also provides torches for night dives and offers dive computer hire on a daily basis. For those looking to upgrade their gas capacity, 15-litre cylinders are available for use.

The waters around Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida are famous for large pelagics. You can expect to see Manta ray (Mobula alfredi) and the rare ocean sunfish. Schools of Jack (Carangidae), trevally, and various tuna (Thunnus) are common, alongside larger predators like Reef shark (Carcharhinus) and blacktip reef sharks.

For those interested in smaller inhabitants, the reefs are teeming with life. You will find a vast array of reef fish, including Butterflyfish (Chaetodon), Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), and various snappers and fusiliers (Caesio). The coral formations are diverse, featuring hard corals (Scleractinia), table corals, soft corals (Alcyonacea), and large gorgonians.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe on the seabed and within the reef structure. Look out for Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), and various species of scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae) and frogfish (Antennarius). You may also spot mantis shrimp, sea slugs, and various crabs (Brachyura) hiding among the coral bommies.

The diving in this region is characterised by significant currents. The centre's instructors are experienced in guiding divers through these conditions, which are often what brings the larger pelagic species close to the reefs.

While the sites are accessible to various levels, the presence of strong currents means that experience in drift diving is an advantage. The area is part of a marine protected zone, ensuring the habitats remain vibrant and well-populated.
