Legend Diving Lembongan

Legend Diving Lembongan is a PADI 5 Star IDC centre situated in the northern part of the island. Established in 2012, the centre is part of a wider Indonesian network with locations in Nusa Penida and Komodo, bringing a consistent level of professionalism to the local waters.

The centre is positioned to take advantage of the unique currents and nutrient-rich waters that define the Nusa Penida marine sanctuary. Whether you are looking for calm reef exploration or challenging drift dives, the location provides access to some of the most biodiverse sites in Indonesia.

The team is composed of experienced, multilingual instructors and guides capable of conducting courses and trips in English, French, German, and Spanish. This allows for clear, precise briefings, which is essential given the complex current conditions often encountered in these waters.

Safety and small group sizes are central to their operation, with a maximum ratio of four divers per guide. They also offer a refresher programme for divers who have been away from the water for a significant period or have a low number of logged dives, ensuring you are comfortable before heading out to the sites.

As an IDC centre, Legend Diving offers a complete range of PADI training. This spans from initial certifications like Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water Diver to more advanced levels such as Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver, and Drift Diver.

Professional training is a core component of the centre, with pathways available for those pursuing Divemaster or Instructor Development Courses (IDC). They also provide specialised training including Enriched Air Nitrox, Sidemount Diver, and various conservation-focused courses.

The centre operates two fast boats designed to reach the various dive sites efficiently, with transit times ranging from 10 to 45 minutes depending on the destination. These vessels accommodate up to 15 divers per trip.

On board, you will find essential safety equipment including emergency oxygen, flotation vests, and a first aid kit. For full-day excursions, the centre provides lunch, unlimited water, tea, coffee, and fresh fruit to keep you hydrated and energised between dives.

The centre provides a full range of rental equipment for those not travelling with their own kit. For night dives, torches are available to help you explore the nocturnal life on the reef.

Nitrox is available on-site, providing an option for divers looking to extend their bottom time or manage nitrogen loading during multi-dive days. The facility is also equipped with emergency oxygen and comprehensive first aid supplies to maintain high safety standards.

The region is a magnet for large pelagics. Between June and October, the waters are famous for sightings of the ocean sunfish (Mola mola), while Manta ray (Mobula alfredi) can be encountered year-round at cleaning stations. You will also frequently see various species of sharks, including reef sharks (Carcharhinus), blacktip reef sharks, and whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus).

The reef itself is a complex ecosystem of hard corals (Scleractinia), soft corals (Alcyonacea), gorgonians, and various coral bommies. These structures support a vast array of colourful fish, including angelfish (Pomacanthidae), butterflyfish (Chaetodon), and various species of snapper and trevally.

Macro life is abundant for those who look closely. You can find various nudibranchs, octopus (Octopus vulgaris), scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and frogfish (Antennarius) amongst the crevices. The sandy patches and reef flats also host wobbegong sharks, sea snakes (Hydrophiinae), and various species of rays, including marbled rays.

In the more open sections of the reef, you may encounter larger visitors such as eagle rays (Aetobatus), spinner dolphins (Delphinidae), and various species of turtles, including the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtle.

The diving environment in Nusa Penida is characterised by significant currents, which can exceed 4 knots and occasionally include downcurrents or upcurrents. Detailed briefings are provided to prepare you for these drift diving conditions.

The best time to visit for Mola mola sightings is between June and October. While the sea is generally calmer from November to May, the region remains a year-round destination for those looking to encounter manta rays and diverse reef life.
