World Diving Lembongan

World Diving Lembongan holds a significant place in the local diving community as the first established centre on the Nusa islands. Since 1998, it has operated as a cornerstone for diving in the region, helping to set safety standards through its involvement with the Lembongan Marine Association.

The centre is perfectly positioned for those looking to explore the diverse marine ecosystems of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida. Whether you are looking for shallow reef flats or more challenging drift dives along the walls, the location provides direct access to some of Indonesia's most iconic pelagic encounters.

The team consists of 13 instructors and guides, ensuring a high level of expertise for all divers. To maintain a safe and personalised environment, the centre operates with a maximum ratio of 4 divers per guide.

As a PADI 5 Star centre, they provide a structured learning environment for everyone from children in the PADI Bubblemaker programme to professionals training for their Divemaster certification. The staff has a long history of training local instructors and divemasters, contributing to the professional standard of the islands.

The centre offers a complete range of PADI courses for all experience levels. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Open Water Diver course, with the option to complete theory via e-learning before arrival to save time on the island.

For those looking to advance, the curriculum includes Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and the PADI Divemaster programme. They also host the PADI Bubblemaker programme for younger divers in a controlled pool environment.

The Big Boat is a traditional Balinese jukung, the only vessel of its kind on the island. This double-outrigger boat provides stability and comfort for up to 12 divers during excursions.

On board, you will find a sun deck with beanbags, a dry zone for your bags, and a toilet. The boat is well-equipped for surface intervals with fresh fruit, nasi campur, tea, and coffee. For safety and ease of use, it features marine radios, emergency oxygen, a first aid kit, life jackets, and a long ladder to make boarding easier.

The centre provides a full range of individual equipment for hire, including regulators, BCDs, and wetsuits. For those who prefer to bring their own kit, a 10% discount is available if you provide your own BCD, regulator, and wetsuit.

Specialist items such as dive computers and GoPros are also available for rent. For night dives, torches can be hired to help you explore the reef after dark. Nitrox is available for use, and 15-litre cylinders can be requested if you require the extra gas volume.

The area is famous for its seasonal visitors, particularly the ocean sunfish (ocean sunfish) which can be seen from July to November. During this same period, plankton blooms often attract large numbers of Manta ray (Mobula alfredi) and various pelagic species.

On the reefs, you will find a wealth of hard corals (Scleractinia) including table corals and large coral formations. These structures support a diverse community of fish, including various species of reef fish, jacks (Carangidae), and colourful fish like anthias (Anthias) and butterflyfish (Chaetodon).

For those interested in macro life, the reefs host peacock mantis shrimp, octopus (Octopus vulgaris), and various nudibranchs. You may also spot ribbon eels (blue ribbon eels) and different types of shrimp amongst the coral branches.

Larger residents include green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) and hawksbill turtles, which are often seen resting on the reef. Predatory species such as whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), bamboo sharks (Chiloscyllium), and various rays, including marbled rays, are also part of the local ecosystem.

Most dives in this area are drift dives, where the boat follows the divers from the surface and retrieves them at the end of the dive. You should be prepared for currents, which are a characteristic feature of many of the local sites.

Between July and October, you may encounter cooler thermoclines where water temperatures can drop below 20°C. When planning trips to the manta sites, it is best to look for periods of low swell and minimal surface waves.
