Abyss Dive Center

Abyss Dive Center is an international diving school situated in the Karangasem region of Bali, specifically in the Amed area. The centre serves as a hub for divers looking to explore the volcanic sands and dramatic drop-offs that define this part of the island.

Whether you are looking to complete your first certification or are an experienced diver seeking specific drift dives, the centre provides a structured environment. The location offers easy access to some of Indonesia's most iconic sites, from historic wrecks to thriving coral gardens.

The team is composed of professional international instructors who provide guidance in both English and French. They maintain a high standard of safety and individual attention, operating with a strict ratio of one instructor for every two divers.

Beyond standard instruction, the staff is deeply knowledgeable about the local topography and marine life. This expertise ensures that briefings are precise and that dive profiles are tailored to your specific certification level and experience.

The school offers a comprehensive curriculum through multiple certifying bodies, including SSI, FFESSM, ANMP, and CMAS. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or work through the SSI Open Water Diver course.

For more advanced divers, the centre provides training for Advanced Adventurer, Stress and Rescue, and Divemaster levels. They also offer specific technical training, such as the Nitrox 40% Course, and various ANMP levels including Level 1, 2, and 3.

For drift dives around Amed, the centre utilises traditional Balinese jukungs. These small, local fishing boats carry a maximum of three people, allowing for an intimate experience on the water.

These trips often include service between dives, such as tea, fruit, and water. For certain sites like the Jemeluk Wall or the Japanese Wreck, the jukung is essential for navigating the currents and reaching the desired entry points.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit, with a focus on well-maintained Scubapro equipment. This includes everything needed for a complete dive setup, from regulators to BCDs.

On-site facilities include a swimming pool for training and a dedicated rest area. For those looking to extend their bottom time, Nitrox is available for use.

The reefs are characterised by a rich variety of hard and soft corals, including large barrel sponges and giant gorgonians. You will frequently encounter reef fish such as snapper, angelfish, butterflyfish, and fusiliers, alongside larger residents like groupers, Napoleon wrasse, and various species of sharks.

In the deeper sections of the walls and wrecks, look for rays, stingrays, and lionfish. The presence of turtles and various species of eels, including ribbon eels, adds to the biodiversity of the sites.

For macro enthusiasts, the area is a haven for smaller life. You can find a diverse array of nudibranchs, seahorses, and various crustaceans including shrimp and crabs. The sandy bottom and rubble areas are also home to octopus, frogfish, scorpionfish, and various species of pipefish and ghost pipefish.

The diving in Amed is generally sheltered from heavy wind and swell, providing favourable conditions for both shore and boat diving. While many sites like Jemeluk Bay are known for having no current, others such as the Boga Wreck are frequently exposed to currents.

Water temperatures typically range between 26 and 31°C, making it a comfortable environment for most divers throughout the year.
