Amed White Sand Divers

Located on the beautiful Lipah Beach, Amed White Sand Divers serves as a gateway to the diverse underwater landscapes of Bali. The centre is situated in the heart of the Amed region, providing easy access to a variety of environments including coral gardens, steep walls, and famous wrecks.

As a family-run operation, the centre maintains deep roots within the local Balinese community. This connection ensures an authentic experience while providing professional service across a wide range of diving styles, from shallow reef flats to deeper technical dives.

The team consists of three professional instructors capable of conducting training in English, French, German, Spanish, and Indonesian. They focus on a personalised approach, typically maintaining a diver-to-guide ratio of two divers per guide, with a maximum of three.

This small-group philosophy applies to both recreational fun dives and formal training courses. Whether you are working through a certification or exploring a new site, the guides are matched to your specific experience level to ensure safety and enjoyment.

The centre offers a complete range of PADI training, starting from Discover Scuba Diving through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver. For those looking to progress their careers, Divemaster courses are also available.

Specialised training is a core part of their programme, including PADI Nitrox certification, Deep Diver, and Wreck Specialty. They also cater to sidemount divers and provide guidance for technical diving, including decompression diving using open circuit or rebreather.

The centre utilises traditional Jukung boats for local excursions. These vessels allow for easy access to the nearby reefs and sites around Amed and Tulamben.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for those not travelling with their own kit. The centre is equipped to support various diving needs, including Nitrox for those looking to extend their bottom times.

For those staying in the region, the centre provides a complimentary pick-up service from your hotel to the shop on Lipah Beach.

The marine life here is exceptionally diverse, catering to both pelagic enthusiasts and macro photographers. You can encounter larger species such as Whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), Blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus), and various species of sharks, including larger occasional visitors. Schools of Jack, Tuna (Thunnus), and barracuda are frequently seen in the blue, alongside humphead wrasses (Cheilinus undulatus) and Napoleon wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus).

On the reefs and walls, you will find a rich array of corals, including soft corals (Alcyonacea), hard corals (Scleractinia), and large barrel sponges (Porifera). Sea fans (Gorgoniidae) and various gorgonians decorate the slopes, providing habitat for colourful reef fish, angelfish (Pomacanthidae), and parrotfish (Bolbometopon). Turtles, including green turtles and hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), are common residents of these waters.

For macro divers, the area is world-renowned. The sandy patches and muck sites host wonderpus octopuses, mimic octopus, and various species of nudibranchs. Look closely for pygmy seahorses (Hippocampus bargibanti), halimeda ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae), and various species of shrimp (Caridea), including harlequin shrimp and tiger shrimp. You may also spot orangutan crabs, boxfish (Ostraciidae), and various types of scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae) amongst the rubble.

Seasonal sightings include the Mola-mola during the rising tide.

Conditions vary significantly depending on the chosen site. Some locations, such as the Deep Blue, Golden Rocks, and Kusambi sites, are known for having strong currents and are best suited for experienced divers. Gili Selang is primarily a drift dive site.

Other sites, like the Amed muck areas or the House Reef at Lipah Bay, offer low to no current, making them suitable for all experience levels. The centre requires a check dive with divers before taking them to more challenging, high-current sites to ensure they can manage the conditions safely.
