Bali Dive Trek

Bali Dive Trek is situated in the village of Amed, a key diving hub on the east coast of Bali. The area is part of the Indonesian archipelago, home to some of the most diverse marine environments on the planet. The centre is positioned to provide access to both the shore-based sites of Amed and the boat-access sites around Tulamben and beyond.

The operation focuses on personalised service for both individuals and groups, moving away from the high-volume model to ensure a more tailored experience. Whether you are looking for your first bubbles or are planning a complex technical expedition, the centre is geared towards high-level proficiency and respect for the local Balinese culture.

The professional team consists of experienced divers who have worked in the Amed and Tulamben regions for many years. They are multi-lingual, with staff capable of conducting dives and training in English, French, and Spanish.

Affiliated with RAID, TDI, IANTD, and SSI, the centre is equipped to handle a vast spectrum of training requirements. This includes everything from basic recreational certifications to highly specialised instructor-level courses.

The training programme is extensive, covering the entire spectrum of diving progression. Beginners can start with a Try Dive or work through the Open Water 20 and Advanced 35 courses. For those looking to refine their skills, the Scuba Reboot, Performance Diver, and Master Rescue courses are available.

Technical training is a core strength of the centre, with certifications through IANTD, TDI, SSI, and RAID. This includes Sidemount Diver, Wreck Diving Specialty, and advanced rebreather training such as the Recreational CCR Diver (30m) and IANTD CCR Trimix (100m). They also offer specialised courses like the Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) and the ART – Advanced Recreational Trimix.

The centre operates boat dives to reach sites such as Embral, Palung, and the various walls and drift sites around the coast. These trips are designed to take you to more remote topographies that are not accessible from the shore.

On board, you will find refreshments including water, tea, coffee, and fruit. For those looking to push their limits, the centre also supports technical diving with Nitrox and Trimix availability.

The centre provides full equipment hire for divers who do not wish to travel with their own kit. This includes regulators, BCDs, and wetsuits, all maintained to high standards.

For technical divers, the facility is well-equipped to support advanced profiles. They offer rebreather support and have the capacity to facilitate CCR training and guided CCR dives at various depths.

The reefs around Amed and Tulamben are vibrant, featuring a wide array of hard coral (Scleractinia) and soft coral (Alcyonacea) formations. You will encounter diverse fish populations, including various species of snapper (Lutjanus), fusilier (Caesio), and schools of jackfish (Carangidae). Larger pelagics such as reef sharks (Carcharhinus), whitetip sharks (Triaenodon obesus), and occasional grey sharks can be seen patrolling the deeper sections.

For those interested in macro life, the sandy areas and reef flats are exceptional. You can find nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani), pygmy seahorses (Hippocampus bargibanti), and various species of ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae). The area is also home to many crustaceans, including ornamental crabs, shrimps (Caridea), and mantis shrimp (Odontodactylus scyllarus).

Other notable residents include various species of octopus (Octopus vulgaris), moray eels (Muraenidae), and scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae). You may also spot garden eels (Gorgasia), sea turtles (Cheloniidae), and large groupers (Epinephelus) amongst the coral structures.

Diving in this region involves a variety of environments, from calm shore entries to more demanding boat dives. Some sites, such as Gili Selang, are known for strong currents and are reserved for experienced divers.

The topography ranges from shallow reef flats and muck sites to deep walls and volcanic rock formations. Night dives are also available, allowing you to observe the reef under different lighting conditions.
