Camping Tikayan Le Méditerranée - Maeva

This is a family campsite at the end of the Giens peninsula, with mobile homes rather than pitches for tents, caravans or motorhomes. The setting is calm and practical: you have your own space, a kitchen for straightforward meals, and the coast close enough to make a barefoot wander part of the daily routine.

The beach, restaurant and small shop keep the essentials close. The wider appeal is the position: the Hyères islands, the peninsula and the surrounding waters give you plenty to do when the dive day is over.

The campsite is in Hyères, at 354 Boulevard Alsace Lorraine, on the Giens peninsula. It sits by the sea, with the sandy Badine beach about 150 metres away along a pedestrian path shaded by umbrella pines. Bergerie beach is also nearby, while Estanci beach is roughly 0.6 miles away on foot.

This is a coastal base rather than a town-centre address. Hyères itself is around 5 miles from the site by road, with the town’s Saint-Louis church and Saint-Paul collegiate church within the wider area. Les Pesquiers forest is about 2.3 miles away, giving you a change of scenery when the beach has had enough of you.

The Hyères islands are the obvious local draw. Porquerolles is close by, while Port-Cros and Le Levant open up further options for boat trips, walking and sea views. The Parc National de Port-Cros is around 12 miles away.

The accommodation is made up of mobile homes, so the useful question is not which hotel room has the nicest cushion, but how much living space and self-sufficiency you want around your diving. The standard layout has two bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, a seating area and a dining area. Some accommodation has a sea view, which gives the evening a little more Mediterranean theatre without requiring a formal dress code.

A fitted kitchen includes a hob, microwave, refrigerator, kitchenware and coffee machine. That matters when you return hungry, salty and uninterested in a complicated restaurant expedition. You can keep drinks cold, make coffee when it suits you and prepare something simple at the dining table or on the wooden terrace. Air conditioning is also available for the less glamorous but very real business of recovering after a warm day outdoors.

There is a television, private parking and laundry on site. The accommodation is non-smoking, and pets are welcome, with dogs under 40 kg allowed. Children of any age are welcome, although cots and extra beds are not available. The property is not equipped for guests with reduced mobility, so that point deserves attention before booking.

The on-site restaurant is Pizza Bruno et Le Mojito, a pizzeria serving dinner on its terrace. Its pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven, which is exactly the sort of detail that earns its keep when you have spent the day in a wetsuit and would rather eat than perform another logistical operation.

You can eat at the restaurant or take a pizza back to your mobile home’s terrace. The kitchen in the accommodation gives you a second route when you want an early meal, a late snack made from whatever is in the fridge, or simply a quiet evening without another outing.

The Proxi shop on site covers useful provisions, including bread, fresh fruit and vegetables. There is no breakfast package to plan around, so mornings are yours: coffee from the machine, something from the shop, and then out towards the coast or the day’s diving.

The Badine and Bergerie beaches are the easiest way to spend a non-diving morning. Both are reached by small pedestrian paths shaded by tall pines, and several other sandy beaches around the peninsula are accessible on foot or by bicycle. This is a useful arrangement for couples who want sea time without turning every outing into a full expedition.

The water-based options go beyond swimming. Kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, boat excursions and equipment hire are available in the surrounding offer. On land, you can hire or use bicycles, walk, play pétanque or have a game of table tennis. The campsite also has two boules courts and a children’s playground beside the restaurant.

For a longer day out, the organised excursions include Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Le Levant, as well as Hyères, Pointe des Chevaliers and its lighthouse, and the Pesquiers saltworks. Wildlife observation and cultural excursions are also part of the local programme. The result is less about manufactured entertainment and more about having a coastline and islands to explore at your own pace.

Check-in runs from 16:00 to 18:00 and check-out from 08:00 to 10:00. The reception is open daily and provides tourist information. Free private parking is available on site, with no reservation required, which is handy if your dive luggage has multiplied during the journey.

By car, take the A57 towards Nice and Hyères, then the A570 towards Giens and La Tour Fondue. Continue along the D197; after the third roundabout, the campsite is on the left. Hyères railway station serves the area, and bus line 67 stops at Le Pousset. Toulon–Hyères Airport is the nearest airport.

Wi-Fi is available as a paid service, while mobile homes include air conditioning and private bathroom facilities. Visa and MasterCard are accepted. Dogs under 40 kg are allowed. In July and August, booking patterns may require a Saturday-to-Saturday or Sunday-to-Sunday stay, or a minimum stay depending on the accommodation and period; outside the high season, stays from two nights are possible.
